Voting on SOL: How Opinion Rewards Work Without Losing Your Tokens
Updated October 2026
Voting on SOL, the way we use the phrase at VOICE, means voting on polls with VOICE tokens on Solana. You put tokens behind a take, they stay frozen in our smart contract while the poll runs, and they come back to you when it closes. You earn participation rewards whether your take is right or wrong, because the reward comes from a daily pool rather than from whoever voted the other way, and no one has to lose for you to earn.
We run VOICE, so this is our own explanation of our own model. The two places where we describe something that isn’t ours, governance voting and Solana fees, link to the relevant documentation.
Short version
- On VOICE, voting on SOL means voting on polls with VOICE tokens on Solana, not voting on protocol changes.
- Your tokens stay frozen while the poll runs and come back to you when it closes, whichever way the vote goes.
- Rewards come from a fixed daily allocation, split in half between voters and poll creators.
- There is no guaranteed income. Reward amounts are not fixed, and the token price can move.
- Today you take part through SocialCamp, where votes earn Clout, our own points.
What does voting on SOL mean on VOICE?
VOICE is an OpinionFi platform on Solana. The model fits in one sentence: share your opinion, vote on polls and earn whether you are right or wrong. OpinionFi is a participation-based model where value is created through opinions and engagement, and our polls reward people for showing up and taking part rather than for predicting outcomes.
Here is what a vote looks like once token polls are live in the main app.
- Connect a wallet with $VOICE on it. The token gives weight to participation. It is used to create polls and to vote, which keeps every action meaningful and keeps spam out.
- Allocate tokens to your take. You choose how many tokens to put behind your opinion. When you vote, those tokens are frozen in the VOICE smart contract.
- The poll runs, your tokens wait. They stay frozen while the poll runs, and your rewards build up over that time. Your vote is recorded on-chain as a verifiable record.
- The poll closes. Your tokens come back to you along with your rewards, and you earn whether your take landed in the majority or the minority.
That last step is the one people ask about most, so we will say it plainly. You don’t lose your tokens if the majority disagrees with you. Being on the smaller side of a poll is still participation, and participation is what the daily pool pays for.
Is voting on SOL the same as Solana governance voting?
No, and because the phrase is used for both, it is worth separating them. Search for voting on SOL and most of what comes back is governance: DAOs and validators voting on proposals that change a protocol, a treasury or a set of rules. On Realms, a platform for managing DAOs on Solana, “Proposals are how DAOs make decisions”, and in a community token DAO “Members vote on proposals proportional to their token holdings” (Realms documentation, Community Token DAO). That documentation describes the vote as the way to reach a decision and says nothing about a reward for casting it.
A VOICE poll is a different object. It asks what you think, not what the protocol should do, and nothing executes when it closes except the payout.
Governance voting on Solana (Realms) | Voting on SOL on VOICE | |
|---|---|---|
What you vote on | Proposals that change a DAO’s treasury or configuration | Polls on real topics, created by the community and by partner projects |
What the vote does | Reaches a decision, and an executable proposal carries on-chain instructions that can be executed once it reaches quorum | Records your opinion on-chain as a verifiable record |
What you need | Governance tokens of that DAO, with voting weight proportional to holdings | $VOICE in your wallet, allocated to your take |
What you get | A say in the decision. No reward is described in the documentation | Your tokens back when the poll closes, plus a share of the daily reward pool |
Where do the profits from voting come from?
We use the phrase profits from voting because it is the question people bring to us. The accurate word on VOICE is rewards, and here is where they come from.
Rewards are distributed from a fixed daily allocation. Each day’s reward pool is split in half, 50% to voters and 50% to poll creators, so asking the question is rewarded as well as answering it. Your share depends on how many tokens you commit to a poll and on how consistently you take part. Vote regularly and you build a streak, and consistent participation amplifies your share of the reward pool over time.
The money behind the pool does not come from other voters losing. Businesses pay into the ecosystem pool to run campaigns and to license aggregated poll data, so the new money enters from outside. That is why nobody has to lose for you to earn, and why a vote in the minority is paid from the same pool as a vote in the majority.
Two consequences follow from a fixed daily allocation, and we would rather state them here than have you find them later. First, as more people join, the reward per action adjusts, so there is no fixed rate per vote. Second, there is no guaranteed income, and we do not promise a return on the tokens you allocate.
People also ask us about surveys on SOL. VOICE polls are not surveys in the Web2 sense. There is no client paying per completed questionnaire and no sign-up wall. Polls are questions created by the community and by partner projects, and taking part in them is rewarded from the same daily pool as any other vote.
What can you lose?
The honest list is short but it is not empty.
- Your reward can be small. Amounts are not fixed. They depend on the daily allocation, on how many people took part that day, on the tokens you committed and on your streak.
- The token price can move. $VOICE is designed to be used within the platform, not as a speculative asset, and once it launches, its price can move like any other token’s. The tokens that come back to you when a poll closes are your tokens, whatever they are worth that day.
- A smart contract is still code. Our vote program, the part that holds the tokens you freeze while voting, was reviewed by Nethermind Security (report NM-0998, final version dated August 20, 2026). Both findings, rated Informational, were fixed before the final report. An audit lowers the risk of a code bug but doesn’t remove it. The website and SocialCamp are outside that review. The scope and the link to the report are on our security page.
- Tokens with our name on them. Until the token launch, to be announced on our official channels, there is no official $VOICE token. Any token with that name traded today, wherever it is listed, is not ours. At launch, the contract address will be posted on our security page and in our official Discord. We never ask for seed phrases or private keys.
What you don’t lose is your allocation to a poll. You don’t lose your tokens if the majority disagrees with you.
How to take part today
Voting with $VOICE starts when the main app launches. Until then, the place to take part is SocialCamp, behind the GET CLOUT button at the top of voice.cc or at voice.cc/socialcamp. What you earn there is Clout, our own points.
SocialCamp groups polls into clusters. Our own clusters cover unpopular opinions, market sentiment built only from what VOICE users vote, and messages to the future. Partner projects run clusters of their own, with rewards in USDC, SOL, NFTs and whitelist spots. Sign in, pick a cluster, vote on the polls you actually have an opinion on, and come back the next day.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need SOL or VOICE tokens?
You vote with VOICE tokens. For token polls your wallet must hold $VOICE, and that is what you allocate to a take. Solana’s documentation states the rule that applies to every application built on the network: “Every Solana transaction requires a fee paid in SOL” (Solana documentation). So you will also need a small amount of SOL in your wallet to cover network fees. On SocialCamp today you sign in and earn Clout, and token polls come with the main app.
What happens to my tokens when the poll closes?
They come back to you along with your rewards, whichever way the vote went. While the poll runs they are frozen in the VOICE smart contract, and you don’t lose them if the majority disagrees with you.
Is this a prediction market?
No. On a prediction market you stake money against an outcome and lose the stake if you are wrong. On VOICE you allocate tokens to express an opinion, you don’t lose them if the majority disagrees with you, and you earn participation rewards whether your take is in the majority or the minority. We call this OpinionFi. The side-by-side is on our comparison page.
Where to start
The one-line version: voting on SOL on VOICE is voting on polls with VOICE tokens, your tokens come back when the poll closes, and you earn for taking part. Start on SocialCamp, and for anything we didn’t cover here, from the audit to the token, the answers are at voice.cc/faq.
How VOICE works is described here by us, in the words of our own pages. The sentences about governance voting and Solana fees link to Realms and Solana documentation.
