What is OpinionFi? Definition, how it works and how it differs from prediction markets

OpinionFi (opinion finance) is a participation-based model on Solana: opinions are recorded on-chain as votes, people earn rewards for taking part rather than for being right, and the results become structured signal for projects and AI. VOICE (voice.cc) introduced the term and runs the model.

Where the term comes from

VOICE introduced OpinionFi in the blog post The rise of OpinionFi, published on voice.cc in February 2026. The post calls OpinionFi (Opinion Finance) the new SocialFi sub-sector and sets out its logic, Proof-of-Opinion: you allocate your $VOICE tokens to support your opinion, and you earn regardless of whether you are in the majority or minority.

A new word was needed because the older models pay for something else: a prediction market pays for being right, so a wrong take costs the stake, and a quest board pays for a finished task, so the opinion itself has no value. OpinionFi pays for the act of sharing a stance, which the about page calls participation-based rewards tied to activity, not capital.

How OpinionFi works on VOICE

Each step in the site's words.

  1. Your wallet holds $VOICE. To take part in token-based polls, your wallet must hold VOICE tokens. The token gives weight to participation, so actions are meaningful and not spam-based.
  2. While voting you freeze tokens in the VOICE smart contract. Your vote is recorded on-chain as a verifiable data point.
  3. You do not lose your tokens if the majority disagrees with you. Polls pay out when they close, and you earn whether your take is in the majority or the minority. This is what separates OpinionFi from a prediction market.
  4. Rewards come from a daily reward pool, split in half between voters and poll creators. They are distributed from a fixed daily allocation, so as more people join, the reward per action adjusts. There is no guaranteed income and no promised return on the tokens you allocate.
  5. Businesses pay into the ecosystem pool to run campaigns and to license aggregated poll data, so the new money enters from outside. That is why no one has to lose for you to earn.
  6. Poll results are recorded on-chain and come back as a dataset and actionable signals. A project can build a dataset, run its agent and measure how closely its decisions align with human conviction.

Token-based polls arrive with the main application launch on the roadmap. Today people take part through SocialCamp, where the VOICE clusters run polls, the partnership clusters mostly run quests, and you earn Clout for your posts. The vote system was reviewed by Nethermind Security, report NM-0998, final August 20, 2026 (security page).

OpinionFi vs prediction markets vs InfoFi vs quest platforms

OpinionFi (VOICE)
Prediction markets (Polymarket, Kalshi)
InfoFi (Kaito)
Quest platforms (Galxe, Zealy)
What you do
Allocate $VOICE tokens to a take and vote; today, vote on SocialCamp
Buy shares in an outcome (Polymarket) or trade event contracts (Kalshi)
Post about crypto projects on social media; Kaito tracks mindshare
Complete tasks a project sets
What gets rewarded
Taking part, majority or minority, from the daily pool
Being right. Winning shares pay $1.00 on Polymarket, paid in by the other side
Attention. Kaito closed its Yaps leaderboards in January 2026 after X banned pay-to-post apps
Finished tasks: on-chain credentials and campaign rewards on Galxe, XP and sometimes crypto on Zealy
Does a wrong take cost your deposit
No. You do not lose your tokens if the majority disagrees with you
Yes. Losing shares are worth $0.00 on Polymarket; on Kalshi you can lose what you use to trade
No take to be wrong about, nothing put in against a post
No take. Galxe depends on the campaign, Zealy asks for no money in to join
Who the data serves
Projects that license aggregated poll data and calibrate AI agents
Traders, and anyone reading the market price as a forecast
Projects and investors using what Kaito calls intelligence for the attention economy
The project that set the tasks

What OpinionFi is not

Not a prediction market. On a prediction market you stake money against an outcome and lose the stake if you are wrong. On VOICE you allocate tokens to express an opinion, you do not lose your tokens if the majority disagrees with you, and VOICE does not take the other side of your opinion. That is why VOICE calls itself a safe alternative to Polymarket.

Not a survey app. VOICE polls are not surveys in the Web2 sense: there is no client paying per completed questionnaire and no sign-up wall. Polls are opinion signals created by the community and by partner projects, rewarded from the same daily pool as any other vote. The words voting on SOL and surveys on SOL describe this model; a paid survey site is a different product.

Not a quest platform. A quest platform rewards a finished task, and the task has no opinion in it. On VOICE the reward is for the stance you take and the signal it creates. SocialCamp carries quests too, alongside its polls.

Glossary

Six terms, in the wording the site uses.

OpinionFi. A participation-based model where value is created through opinions and engagement. VOICE enables on-chain polls and voting that reward users for showing up and participating, rather than predicting outcomes or speculating.

Poll. A question you vote on. Polls are opinion signals created by the community and by partner projects. When you vote, your tokens are frozen in the smart contract, and polls pay out when they close.

Participation reward. What the daily pool pays: every opinion you put on-chain counts as participation, and participation is what the daily pool rewards, from a fixed daily allocation.

Clout. What you earn on SocialCamp today. The page is titled Earn Clout for your posts, and one of its poll clusters puts it as every vote earns Clout, regardless of outcome. The homepage button Get Clout leads there.

VOICY pass. The pass you claim on SocialCamp by signing in, with a multiplier that grows up to 4X before the snapshot.

Cluster. A themed group of polls or quests on SocialCamp with its own reward pool. VOICE runs its own clusters, such as Time Capsule and Voice Pulse, built around polls. Partnership clusters are run with partner projects and are mostly quests.
